Every now and then we all need a little help. Sometimes we might be lucky enough to see the issue coming, other times it hits us all at once and the next thing you know, you’re stuck with $150,000 in medical bills.
Earlier this year Ed Blake, a Houston based stand-up comic and a friend to many had suffered a broken foot in a car accident. And that was just the beginning of the bad news.
It was a Saturday Night in Oklahoma City and while telling jokes Ed almost passed out on stage. He was able make it to the end of the first show before things got even more serious. Thankfully the club owner had the club staff at the Loony Bin drove Ed to the emergency room.
While in the hospital, doctors told Ed that he had an infection in his foot and that infection had spread throughout his body.
During the battery of tests doctors discovered that one of Ed’s main arteries was 90% blocked. Within days he was operated on and a stent was inserted. The stent relieved the blockage and saved his life.
Then the bad news kept on coming.
The infection in his foot was so bad, Ed was told that to keep the infection from spreading further, they would have to amputate his foot.
Ed spent an entire month in that Hospital – 500 miles away from his home, family and friends – recovering from heart surgery and a foot amputation. He spent the next two months with family, doing rehab and recuperating.
Now back in Houston and already back on stage working, Ed is faced with the daunting task of paying $150,000 in medical bills. Since the Oklahoma hospital was out of network, nothing was covered. This situation already caused Ed to lose thousands in income and savings. There are some things you just can’t plan for.
Every single dollar that you donate will go directly to Ed to help him pay his medical bills, all other related expenses and hopefully help him get back to where he was before all this happened.
I know that it would seem to be unrealistic to try and raise the $150,000 needed to pay off the bills, but anything you can give will help. Even if you can’t donate, if you could just help me spread the word by sharing this on FaceBook, Twitter and other social media platforms I would really appreciate it.
Thank you in advance for your kindness and generosity.
Ed Blake will also be headlining this weekend at the Joke Joint Comedy Showcase.
